Wonderful book for a read aloud! Based on a folk tale, the whole book is written in refrain, meaning the poem builds, repeating lines as it goes along. This was one of my husband’s favorites which then turned into a favorite when ours were young. It’s excellent for memorization! Plus, Ed Emberley’s illustrations won the Caldecott Award!
